Greetings SSHers,
Well, after a lot of talk and procrastination, I've finally gotten around to organizing a Seattle Street Hockey 'field trip'.
Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island has an outdoor hockey rink, complete with boards, that is available for use. I think it's about time we see what playing on a real outdoor rink is like, and maybe it will even energize our grassroots Seattle hockey rink efforts.
Saturday, September 11th, we're heading to Bainbridge. We'll meet downtown at the ferries at 11am and get on the 11:25 ferry. We can try to carpool as best we can, as cars are $15/each to get on the ferry and it is $7/person. It's a 35 minute crossing and probably about a 15 minute drive to the rink. We could get set up and playing by 12:30-1pm, which would give us all day to play (sunsets at 7:29pm).
Afterward, we can hit the Harbour Pub in Bainbridge for a few and then head back to Seattle and hit the town. I think it is obligatory that we make this an all day event, so get a babysitter.
There is a roller hockey team on Bainbridge (run by a guy from Buffalo!), and I may try to contact him to see if he would be able/interested in getting a team together that could challenge us for the first annual Puget Cross-Sound Intercontinental Island Memorial Cup Trophy (Anthony, get busy working on this) just to make it a bit more interesting.
I'm open to any suggestions to improve upon this event, but that's the general idea. The date is firm, as other weekends seem to be booked. I'll put up another post later this week with more details (where to park/meet at Seattle Ferry etc), but let's have people respond to this post if they're in so we have an idea how many people are coming.
Sharif said he's in, how about other goalies?
Steve
