Greetings SSHers,
This past Thursday, Sept 23rd Joe, Eric, Katherine and I attended a Board of Commissioners meeting for the Parks and Recreation Department regarding change of use for underused tennis courts. The meeting was somewhat dominated by the dodgeball group that wants to use Cal Anderson Park (and ONLY Cal Anderson Park) on Capital Hill. The other half of the attendees were there to voice their concern over the lack of playing space for 'alternative' sports, such as bike polo, rollerderby, in-line skating, BMX freestyle riding, RC car racing. We were there supporting street hockey, and I spoke for two minutes about our plight.
Here's what SSH needs YOU to do NOW (it's not much, so keep reading).
Please submit a written testimony (ie an email) for the Park's Board by Tuesday, October 26th.

Here's what we need you to say:
- talk of your participation with SSH. We have been around for 10 years and have about 100 members.
- We have no place to play
- A hockey rink would fulfill our needs, as well as that of every other 'alternative' sport
- we would like to take advantage of the underused tennis court conversion plan. ALSO mention we have already tried the Seattle Neighborhood Matching grants program, and that our proposal was a finalist in the Department of Planning and Development Vacant Lot pilot program.
- while we would like to take part in the tennis court conversion program, we feel the best option is for a BRAND NEW facility for hockey and other alternative sports, thus not reducing any other groups access to facilities.
- anything else you want to add or think would help
ALSO, the Board is going out on site visits on October 7th. If you have any ideas for under used double or triple (preferably triple) tennis courts, please let the Board know prior to October 7th. Also, it would be a good idea if a representative from hockey joined them (I'm not sure yet what time they are doing this). The board will then reconvene on October 28th to make a decision.
This is an easy one. We need you only to send an email. The more emails the better. Don't rely solely on your fellow SSHers. Do it yourself. Let's make this happen. Respond to this post AFTER you have sent your email. Let's see who's not too lazy to help out!
