Well, due to an excellent response to the last post, we're definitely headed to Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island this weekend. As of Tuesday, we have 16 people going (including maybes) and we should be able to get more. Dan and Sharif are playing in net. Anthony is…

There has a lot of discussion about having another game in Bainbridge in anticipation for the upcoming Vegas tournament. SSH has 28 players going to Vegas, and a practice on a (near) full sized rink with boards will definitely help our the crew. Adjusting to the sheer size of the rink and line changes have been areas in need of improvement in past years.
Let's get a head count and some commitment from goalies. I'll put up more details next week, but plan on being at the…

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WGRZ) -- You've heard a lot about why Team Russia had to spend an extra night in Western New York following their gold medal win against Canada Wednesday night.
But a softer side of the team came out Thursday night at the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence. Channel 2 viewer Any Surowiec sent us video from her son's 13th birthday party at the mall. Her family was…

Hey, someone swiped my black Northface baseball hat from hockey this week. I left it on top of the green tarp on the bench, and when we finished for the day it was gone. I think someone who left early may have grabbed it by mistake. Let me know if you have it. Thanks. -Steve

Here's the Parks Department final decision on mixed use tennis courts. Judkins park is actually a very nice tennis court, but again, it would be about 40-50' shorter than where we play now, plus it's in the south end, which I don't think too many people are interested in.

Here's a letter sent out from the city with an update for alternative tennis court use. Not looking great for us, and no courts in our area seem to be in consideration.
DATE: October 25, 2010
TO: Board of Park Commissioners
FROM: Dennis Cook, Parks Athletics Manager
SUBJECT: Proposed Criteria for Allowing Alternate Use on Tennis Courts

Warning: this may very well be a long and boring post. I'm just updating those individuals interested in goings on with the Parks Department and also posting everything I've learned lately from the Parks before I forget it and for future reference. First I'll summarize the trip, the explain what I learned about building a new hockey rink. Feel free to ignore this post if this isn't your thing...I shan't be offended.
That being said, on October 7th I tagged along with the…

Greetings SSHers,
This past Thursday, Sept 23rd Joe, Eric, Katherine and I attended a Board of Commissioners meeting for the Parks and Recreation Department regarding change of use for underused tennis courts. The meeting was somewhat dominated by the dodgeball group that wants to use Cal Anderson Park (and ONLY Cal Anderson Park) on Capital Hill. The other half of the attendees were there to voice their concern over the lack of playing space for 'alternative' sports, such as bike…

Well, by all accounts, the Bainbridge Island trip was a smashing success. Apart from the fact that I am too sore to walk today, we had a great day of hockey. The facility is top notch. Full size rink, great boards, smooth and flat surface. The weather was great, and we played a solid 4.5 hours of hockey. Open ice passing, break-aways, great goaltending...great day of hockey. Definitely work a repeat trip. Plus, we had a great dinner at…

Greetings SSHers,
As many of you know, we're moving our weekly game to Bainbridge Island this Saturday, Sept 11th.
Battle Point Park has an outdoor hockey rink that we have reserved for the day. I was on that side of the water this weekend and I stopped by to check out the facilities. It's not a makeshift rink, or a "good enough, let's call it a rink"…

Greetings SSHers,
Well, after a lot of talk and procrastination, I've finally gotten around to organizing a Seattle Street Hockey 'field trip'.
Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island has an outdoor hockey rink, complete with boards, that is available for use. I think it's about time we see what playing on a real outdoor rink is like, and maybe it will even energize our grassroots Seattle hockey rink…

I did a little research and found the outdoor rink in Bainbridge that had been mentioned. It is at

Alright Yankees, time to do your country proud. Our neighbors to the north are sounding a little cocky, so let's shut them up this year.
I know we have Dan and Sharif in net. The two goalie system worked well last year...no one got too cold that way.
As for everyone else, last year it seemed to work well that offense subbed in for offense and defense for defense. So just think about what position you'd like to play, and plan on playing that for the entire game. Think about…

Wasn't able to make it last week, but heard Hockey Night in Ballard worked out well. Anyone up for a repeat performance? Jason, Doucette and I are in. Goalies? Last rally before Am-Can game (yes I put America first...no accident).

Hey Guys,
This whole city converting vacant lots may or may not result in us getting a 'permanent' rink, but it seems like the best shot we've got at the current time. Adam has been doing a great job with getting this stuff coordinated but needs some more help finalizing things. See his previous post for how you can contribute. We've only got a week left. Jason has already been in contact with hockey rink contractors to get some schematics and ideas on cost. I've scoped out one or two…

Greetings,
After a few recent run-ins with the local octagenarian set, I have only one suggestions. We might want to think about keeping any refreshments we bring to the rink in our cars until we're ready to drink it. I could forsee a situation where Bubbles actually picks up the proper stick (lame excuse by the way) and is able to tag one of these old-time basketballers with a slapshot and next thing you know the cops are…

Soooo, got any plans for Sunday? Shall we descend on a bar and see how this USA vs Canada game of Olympic proportions turns out? Old reliable Bleachers Tavern, or somewhere new? Not sure if there's any competing sporting events on, probably not. Who's in?

For those of you not going to Vegas, the Buffalo Sabres are playing the Canucks on Monday January 25th. I'm going to the game with a bunch of friends (including Tim from MN and Jason from Buff). There's 10 of us total going to the game. Since it's a Monday, we're all heading up to Whistler on Friday night, skiing Sat, Sun and Mon, then heading back down to Vancouver for the game. So if you're interested in Whistler, the game or both, let me know. I don't have any extra tickets or rooms at…
