A few of you today were talking about how Ning (which powers this site) started charging recently.  I found a mashable article about potential alternatives, some of which are reaching out to Ning users to migrate to their sites.

This might be a good opportunity to find something with more feature and flexibility.  I work in web production when not playing street hockey, so I would be willing to get involved if we need help migrating or managing this thing.  Let me know what you think.

It worked.  You should see this comment in your email.  This will make things much easier to follow.  Thanks.

Yes.  I believe so.   Tell me if doesn't start working from here forward.

That is still $240/year that could be used other ways.  I get the hassle of having people migrate user names and passwords though.  If we ever decide to switch over in the future I am willing to help out.

Also, while we are at it.  Is there any setting we can turn on where when you can an email alert that someone has commented on a blog post that the email can contain said comment?  That would be easier than having to load the page every time someone posts something.

Isn't using the SSH kitty fund a good use of funds for this?

It's $20/month. Annoying given that they were free before but the price is competitive in the current market where web companies can't just rely on Google ads to make ends meet. It would suck to have everyone migrate to a new site, recreate their username/password just to have the site start charging later. I like to keep ssh separate from FB so that's also not an option.

Already happened last year.   Vincent forks over $26/month right now.

Any idea when Ning is becoming a pay site? How much time do we have to switch over to another site?

SSH Bank

SSH bank balance is at $75. Thanks to everyone who paid their dues. You can always donate to the ssh general fund by clicking the button below:
