I thought about this on the way to work… Way long, but this is more fun than “working”…

I’ll spoil my idea right away, we need to build THE Seattle international sports bar (hockey would figure prominently obviously)… Before you slam it, here’s a couple reasons why I think the time is now:

  1. Angry Beaver is failing… See link below. They’re actually running a gofundme campaign to stay afloat! We all know why they’re failing… Demand is there during NHL season, they’re just idiots… https://www.facebook.com/angrybeaverseattle/posts/750228181770040. Once they go under, that will create an opportunity.
  2. It was strangely hard to find a place with WiFi to conduct our fantasy draft. I think the view of bar owners who shun the laptop crowd is antiquated.
  3. Seattle needs a go to place to watch “fringe” less mainstream sports. Aussie rules football championship? Bring it on! You’d pack the bar with expats and there’s always a world cup, championship etc. somewhere year round.
  4. Every sport is available for HD streaming now (like Hockeystreams). No need to pay crazy fees to cable providers. I’d buy the highest bandwidth available and stream everything
  5. Many startups were incubated in coffee shops, why not a bar? Need a place to cap up your day with a pint at the pub. We’re the place.
  6. Easy SEO campaign, buy keywords: seattle <name_the_sport> sports bar

Here’s how I envision this “perfect” place I’d want to hang out at. For me, it’s the Kezar pub in San Fran meets Freemont brewery meets Montreal pubs.

  • Fiber internet WiFi, outlets everywhere, phone chargers coming out of the bar.
  • Remote ninjas bartenders. You want to watch the Qatar motoGP, no problems, here it is on your own screen.
  • Speaking of staff, hire Montreal 9s, not Seattle 6.5s. No one seem to understand that in Seattle. Would be competitive advantage.
  • Patio with outdoor TVs
  • Outsource food to rotating food trucks
  • Buy a few Zymatics from Doucette’s company and call yourself a “brewery”. Fresh beer.
  • Capitalize on the fantasy sports boom especially on NFL Sunday by projecting peoples fantasy stats on the big screen.
