This year, the intimidation game started early.
At 1am, a certain player hailing from Buffalo disrupted my pre-game night sleep by sending this text:
Hey no joke, I need some help. This is my only allowed text. I’m at a police substation in North Seattle on 130th and Aurora. Can anyone come get me out of here? Bail is only $5000 which I’ll totally reimburse. I’m in bind.
Yeah right… Bush league… ;)
On game day, we greeted the amazing Robert Quaak who made a return to the black top. Good to have you back!
Game 1 started tentatively with an emphasis on defense. It took an OT goal by “work gloves” Darren to give the first game to team Canada. 3-2. Good thing we were doing timed games, we’d still be playing…
Game 2-4 wheels came off for team Canada, with tight wins by Team USA. 2-1 (OT), 3-2 (OT), 4-3
With the games at 3-1 team Canada had never been this close to losing the title in 7 years! Had to make a few adjustments… They must have worked because the next 2 games went to Canada. 3-0, 3-1.
Game 7 was a nail biter. We had been playing for over 4 hours by that point and everyone was cramping and playing sloppy. 0-0 was the score after 1 period… This is the stuff of legends… Jared was the day’s hero with the series winning goal with less than 5 mins left!!!
So close but Team Canada prevails! AGAIN! (2014 CanAm scoresheet)
Koh Smythe went to Robert Quaak. Well deserved, congrats!
The post-game BBQ saw the usual antics of cornhole, flip cups, Bounce House, Koh selling raffle tickets etc.
BTW, The SSH cup is missing! Not the first time, we forgot it in a Vegas hotel in 06 (long story). Is it at the bottom of Koh’s pool? Taped to the pole at Rick’s? Anyone?!
Huge ssh thanks goes especially to:
Till next Saturday, game on!
