We came, we played hard, and we had a great fucking time doing it. First game was vs. an all-star team from New Jersey. They mercy'd us 8 to 0 and had us thinking "what the fuck just happened"(chuck quote) every time we came off the floor. New Jersey ended up winning the tournament allowing only 3 goals in all of their games.

Second game was against a tall group of guys from Calgary. We were in the game the whole time but came up short losing 1 to 0. After the game we went outside and drank beers in the warm weather with the Stratosphere tower looking down on us. We knew we played a great game, so we celebrated our effort and had a night to remember. I will spare the details for now but anybody on the Tsunami will tell you Friday night was a night to remember.

Saturday afternoon came and we were up against the host team, So Cal Chiefs. Geoff Weorbicki netted our first goal of the tournament with a quick slap shot from the side. Saying it was a snipe would be an understatement, it was one of the best goals of the tourney. The game went on and the Chiefs put one in tieing the game at 1 a piece. Our lead was gone but we kept running as hard as our hangovers would let us. Than a few minutes later the Chiefs struck again on the power play and took a lead 2 - 1. That turned out to be the last goal of the game and put the Tsunami into the C division (seeded # 3 out of 6 teams) heading into the playoffs.

Saturday night 9:40pm was the next game time. The So Cal Express were our opponents I believe. It was the quarterfinals and about midway through the game we found ourselves down 1 to 0. We kept going and peppering the goalie until finally I found the back of the net about midway through the second half tieing the game 1 - 1. Following this we took some penalties and were forced to kill off a 5 on 3 through the remainder of the 2nd half AND start of overtime. We did some amazing penalty killing and I don't think we even let a shot on goal(could be wrong). Than about midway through the overtime Corey S. takes the ball out of the left corner, stick handles past one guy, than another. He goes to his backhand and is hooked, he keeps possession and instead of shooting, passes the ball over to the left. Chuck was right on the door step and he hammered the ball home giving the TSUNAMI their first victory in tournament history! We all roared off the bench and congratulated each other, it was a great feeling. The next game was Sunday afternoon. Another night of drinking started in the ghetto parking lot. We knew it was sketchy place to drink but didn't care because we had just played an incredible game. Anyways, the next opponents were the Oakland Seals. The game started off at a fast pace, with scoring opportunities between both teams. I believe I had about 5 opportunities myself but I couldn't find the back of the fucking net, which turned out to be the storyline of the game. Our goalie Dan played a great game, but we couldn't muster enough offense and lost 1 to nothing. It was a bad feeling knowing we could have went to the finals and probably taken the championship. But we held our heads high and congratulated each other on a GREAT tournament. Ok i'm gonna add some pictures and than go to bed, hah, peace bitches!

Thanks Marshy!

I couldn't agree more with Vin. What a blast. Next time we will be more prepared, I am just grateful we don't have a tourney next week!

After watching some of the more successful teams it should give us an idea on how to play smarter, and a few of those spin-o-rama moves to protect the ball need to come into play.

I can't wait for next week! Go Tsunami!

Thanks Marshy for the recap. Dunno how you had energy on Sunday night to write this! Must be youth.

Special thanks to Saliba, Werbicki and Schneuer for their extra mile effort. We owe this tourney appearance to your work putting this together. Those tsunami jerseys rock.

Thanks to Terry of SoCal street hockey for organizing this tourney. We were all impressed with your super smooth operation.

What trip this weekend was. Haven't felt these strong competitive juices flow in me in a long time. If like me you're an aficionado of hard fought physical play, you were well served. As expected Bubbles was right in his element. His tour PIM numbers tell the story... Also holding their own in the physical play were Benny, Ovington, Shelest and Doucette.

If this tour is a good example of the caliber out there, we're a solid C side. We were a hair short of winning our C semi final that would put us in a position to win the C group. I think we can realistically shoot for a spot in the B pool next year. I'm already excited about it!

See you all next Saturday.
