SSH Vacant Lots: Presentation on July 20th!

The feasibility questionnaire has been completed on time. This is a way for the Design Commission to see how the Community Rink proposal could be implemented.

The next step in all this is a 2-minute presentation to property owners, developers, and City planners on July 20th. That's all the information we have at this time. No time, no location, no idea as to what kind of props we can use, what kind of light show we can provide, how many guests can fill the audience, or which Chris Koh wardrobes would be allowed at the podium!

Is anyone interested in presenting? Do you think the idea of a Community Rink is a good idea? Do you think the idea of a Community Rink could eventually lead to the City building a rink(s) facility here in Seattle? Then do something about it! The work that has been done so far has been done largely by me. A few others have contributed, and I thank them for their help. It's time to get the rest of SSH invested in this idea.

Do you have suggestions? Do you have pictures of a location that might work for us? Are you making alliances with other groups who might be interested? Put it in the comments!

Stay tuned for more info.

I can present on July 20 - Vinny, do you want to partner up on this? I have a couple of ideas, and pretty good experience with government program presentations.

Was away for a couple weeks due to work crazyness and come back to find we're closer than ever to a Seattle outdoor rink. Kudos to you Adam for leading the effort! I'm available for the presentation in any capacity. I'll see if I can drum up some support from other hockey buddies. I'm curious to hear about your bid Graeme.

Hi all,

Good stuff here. We too are trying to something similar here in Portland. Work with the city to rehabilitate a vacant lot. Although we might try and resurface our current location as it is a bit rough. It is all fenced in, near public transportation and has the potential for storage. On another note, we had our first tourney on June 19 and it was quite a success. We plan on having another in September, so I'll get back to you with the date. Anyone headed up to Everett for the tourney on the 17th or to BC for one of the Play On! tourneys?

#3. Have a call into two different board manufacturers in Canada for this type of thing. Sounds like wood boards are tougher to deal with but cheaper, aluminum boards are expensive. Getting a quote within the next week.

The boards systems would be portable if ever had to move them, chain link surrounding it to deal with lack of ball accuracy, and also allow for home and away boxes, penalty boxes, ref boxes.

Be prepared to fund raise.

#1. Ron Niemi has put in motion getting a support letter from the director of Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association(my alma mater) and from the association.

#2. I contacted Ron Wright of qalacrosse.org, who is a leader in the sport and is heavily involved in it's growth and scheduling in Washington State. Great guy. He offered support in the form of a letter, and potentially sending a representative.
