PDX Ball Hockey Tournament Champs

Congrats to the Seattle Tsunami for winning the PDX Ball Hockey Tournament on Saturday, October 2 in Portland OR. Over 50 players vied for the coveted cup. With great weather in the forecast, cold beer on tap and the masses gathering on the grassy knoll, players and fans were ready for a great day of hockey. The Tsunami went (2-0-1) in the group play (scores 0-0, 4-0, 6-0). Dan Manderino was in top form recording 3 shutouts in group play. In the knockout phase of the tourney, Seattle was true to form in their semifinal game with a 5-2 victory. Seattle jumped to an early lead, but the Winter Ales battled back in the second half. Manderino thwarted the Winter Ales comeback to book a spot in the final. In the other semifinal, Team Speed Wolfe beat HC Tillicum 4-1, with keeper Matt Piccone playing another strong game. The finals were set. Could the locals stem the Tsunami? Team Speed Wolfe jumped out to a quick start with a goal by Dan Gerhardstein. Could an upset be in the offing? Not to be denied, the Tsunami answered with a quick goal and another 3 goals to seal the deal, 4-1. Thanks to Captain Carlo for bringing his team down to play and congrats to Erik Cortes for wining MVP honors, who tallied 13 goals the day.
