The Penguins down the Buffalo Sabres on Sidney Crosby's shootout winner in front of 71,217 fans in a memorable outdoor game to kick off 2008. Crosby also set up Colby Armstrong twenty-one seconds into the first period. Conklin (.973 SV%) and Miller (.960 SV%) rounded out the three stars of the game.

Kotalik scored on Buffalo's first shot of the shootout before Conklin closed the door. Pittsburgh's rookie defenseman Kris Letang tallied on a dazzling backhand roof-job setting the stage for Crosby's game-winner.
