POLL: Is there interest in contiuing with the City of Seattle/Vacant Lots project?

This has been talked about on game days but we didn't post anything official after meeting with the City back in July. To make a long story short, any rink solution that we would get access to as part of the City's project would be temporary. The lots involved are currently vacant due to the economic downturn and other factors that have lead to the property owners not being able to go forward with constructions on their sites. But this will change, and when it does our rink solution would be bulldozed.

With this in mind, we are trying to gauge any remaining interest in us continuing forward with a bid for a vacant lot. Please leave a comment to this post with your thoughts/opinions. Should we go forward with this, likely having to use our own funds, knowing that the site is only temporary? If you think Yes, are you willing to get involved with the process? Or do we scrap this and put effort into other more permanent options. Speak up.

Hobvias has a great point below. The Matching fund is what we should shoot for as a joint collective group of athletes weather its strt hockey or inline or bike polo. We all use about the same courts. We need boards and nets! One location that has be alloted for such multi-purpose sports in the double tennis courts at Judkins Park on 23rd and Judkins, above I-90. Lets keep up the momentum here to get these well deserved courts/rinks built!

if you're looking for funding, check out the seattle department of neighborhoods' matching funds.

i'm currently the volunteer coordinator on a p-patch community garden expansion project [on parks land and a former alley/sDoT right of way] that is primarily funded through one of these matching grants.

"Every award is matched by neighborhoods’ or communities’ resources of volunteer labor, donated materials, donated professional services or cash."

it funded the construction of a pétanque court in our neighbourhood and this doesn't seem dissimilar to a street hockey venue.

I'm in for a vacant lot but not willing to put much money down. Also depends on the lot. I'm just hoping for an avenue to something permanent (the spot). We could build our own walls over time. Put up hay bails or chain link fence if need be. Anything with four walls.

Seems like the same effort could be better spent trying to get space in one of the City Parks. I know that King Co. parks is willing to entertain ideas for park usage, however much if not all financial responsibility would fall on us. I talked with SRG http://sportresourcegroup.com/outdoor-inline-hockey.php and semi permanent boards are in the $50k-$75k range not including the surface.

Yes, I am interested. It doesn't matter much to me if it is bulldozed next decade or next week.
