Hi all -

A few of us with no experience playing hockey, but lots of experience watching it, are looking for a group of people to play with. Since the Saturday meetups seem to be intermediate and up (re a few posts by Cory on only looking for skilled players), does anyone have any suggestions or know of any meetups that are more casual?

Cheers,

most wear shin guards (cheap at freddy's) and then some sort of gloves. cheap ones are at inlinewarehouse.com or rollerhockeymonkey.com. fairly cheap sticks as well.

You can count me in as an un-athletic Irishman, as well! I have zero experience with hockey, but a great deal of interest in it. I might just show up and watch from the sidelines some Saturday, just to see what all goes down. Any ideas on where to get inexpensive gear?

I agree with Peto. Everyone needs to start somewhere, so come on out. As long as you bring a good attitude, a dark AND a light shirt, and a willingness to learn & get better (including taking constructive criticism from Cory) you'll be fine.

I wouldnt worry too much about it. There is periodic noise about skill-level when we have periods of tons of people turning up and/or in the run-up to big games (e.g. the CanAm game and BBQ next weekend), but in general all are welcome. As our opening note says, we even taught an unathletic Irishman how to play and he made a huge contribution (to the quality of drinking primarily). Next weekend, we'll play relatively hard until we eliminate the Americans and then it will switch to pure pick-up. If we start getting tons and tons of peole every Saturday, perhaps that's how it evolves. Net net, dont pay too much attention to Cory. None of us do ;-)
