Despite the addition of Cam Green and Ovi to last year's championship team, Typhoon (we were called Tsunami last year) not fare too well this year. After winning our first game rather easily 2-0 on goals by Cam Green and Erik, we lost a tough 1-0 game in game 2. Dan made about 100 saves including 2 penalty shots but we could not break through. All 4 teams in our division were 1-1 going into the 3rd game in pool play. So it was win and in, lose and go home. We lost our final game in pool play 4-0 to the eventual champions, Team Alberta(?). They were called Strange Brew in the tourney but listed as Team Alberta in the write-up. I don't have a whole lotta respect for a team that whines and complains literally the entire game but they beat us and won it all so clearly were a pretty good team.

The talent was much better this year and almost every game in the tourney was competitive. Dan was our MVP as he made some incredible saves, especially the last 2 games, and kept us in it. Sadly we could not click on offense and 2 goals over 3 games is not going to get it done.

There is always next year...

Also, guess I should have clarified in my last email:  Reason this tourney was not posted to the website was because it was not an open invitational.  It was capped at 8 teams and since the Portland league was hosting, they had to consider all those that wanted to play down there first.  The team that won are Canadian kids but they are in school down there and play in their regular league.  The only other non-Portland team was from Everett and they played against Portland in the Everett tournament (so I guess they were told about the Portland tournament).

I think Bob (the organizer) is looking to expand next year so hopefully there will be room for more teams.  Or, we can organize our own tournaments and get teams to come down to Seattle (of course we have no rink but could rent out Bainbridge or Olympia).
