    Mr. Vincent,

I've been thinking a lot about hockey boards, and since there may be issue with storing and transporting 2x8 pieces of plywood, I've been reexamining the use of the barrier fencing we currently have. I have some ideas, stealing from the way volleyball nets are strung up, but I have some questions for you. 1) Where did you get that stuff? How much $? I found it at Grainger's for 100-ft/$76. Online there are some deals too. 2) The more simple I make it, the less able I am to make it adapt to different sizes and/or location of our playing area. Do we pretty much plan on playing at that school near St. Johns on a regular basis?

I'm trying to make this simple, cheap, an effective, but at the same time I want it to be adaptable to where and how we are able to tiedown to whatever is around us. Make sense?

Another big question - and the more information/specifics you have for me the better. I'm going to be calling Rat City Rollergirls and the administrative offices at Magnuson Park, with the hope I learn how a group/team can secure a permanent space in one of the hangars or on the property of the park. If we have a more permanant space to play at, then the more we could invest into setting up boards, and that leads to showing the city council/potential sponsors/whomever that we're pretty serious about playing, having a team that respresents Seattle, and starting perhaps even a small league in the city. That being said, before I talk to Magnuson (which, is this location out of the question?), I want to know about how this group was started, by who, and when. Although it may be a very non-chalant no-brainer as to how it all started, the more details/names/locations/dates I can share with these people, the better chance I have with impressing upon them the seriousness and organization of our group: in other words, I'll be able to better sell Seattle Street Hockey to Magnuson if it sounds like I know what I'm talking about. So, if you can, please give me some poop about how SSH started. Names, locations, and dates, and numbers of members would be helpful!

    Thanks for your help,
    Adam

    hey Vincent,
i'm not sure i can come the next six saturdays because i have to give snowboard lessons at Snoqualmie.

What are the hockey balls called that we use??
    I want to order some.
  • Adam

Wow! I skimmed it and found it really encouraging. I'll look at it a little closer when I have more time. Great find! If we (SSH) end up getting serious about starting something or having a having a hand in something like this, count me in to help out. I know that if we do, some of us will have to start committing to things, and that usually means setting goals and deadlines. Although I balk sometimes at that type of structure (especially when I'm trying to have fun), it's necessary to get anything done. Very encouraging. Thanks.

Availability for fence tinkering: Wed-Fri night (in the dark), or Saturday before hockey. Call me to set up: 323-9344.

saturday would be the earliest b/c i need to procure more material-- fencing, strap-ties, etc. i'll let you know by friday if i'm ready to try on saturday. if so i figure a 12PM start isn't unrealistic as i'm sure there will be bugs to work out.

    Re: the rewritten Welcome!

Phew! Thanks for getting rid of the "we even taught an irish man how to play". Technically, there are two options:

    1) Irish man
    2) irishman

Thankfully I don't have to swallow that anymore! Go Irish!

okay-- a preliminary search turned up a surprisingly affordable flight from seattle to pittsburgh for $300 round-trip; leaving on may 27th and returning on may 29th. that would allow us to see game 3 on the 28th-- assuming we could get tickets of course. the rub being that it's the middle of the week.

i could probably make that work. game 4 is on the 31st but airfare is considerably more expensive.

    thoughts?

    Hey Vincent,
Greetings from the land of the rising sun. I had to give a speech at a ball hockey tournament in Nagoya two week-ends ago and got to thinking that it would be great to have a team from Seattle come and take part in this tourney. There was a team from Mississauga here and I might be able to get a bunch of people to put players up if you're interested. The Tourney is usually mid November so if you'd like, I'll keep you posted.
    Cheers,
    Allan

    Hey Vincent,
Happy New Year. Any thoughts on the below message and potential tourney in Japan? A bit of an expense, but hey, an experience for sure.
    Cheers,
    Allan

    Hey guys...
Are you still planning on going to the Sin City shoot out? I have a couple buddies here in salt lake that want to go to the tournament, and play on a team.
Drop me a line if you have room on your team for three more guys...

Hey captain, what's going on with the team Canada roster...do we have a game plan or are we just all showing up?
  • Brad Marsh

yes, vinny, life has been good in the UP. play drop in hockey everyday at noon (5 bucks a session) and i get street hockey going every once in awhile when i get enough kids to play. anyways i wanted to ask you about the Vegas team...Who's picking the squad this year? Kevin informed me that Doucette was taking over most of his responsibilities on the team but he hasnt returned my email so I wanted to talk to you...I want to play with my buddy Paul Quayle on a line as winger pairs. You met him before when he was in Seattle for 2 weeks. I like playing on Benny's line because we got good chemistry but me and Paul play together everyday at noon and we play on the same line in our Men's League twice a week so we know how each other plays. I also wouldn't be opposed to playing with Paul together as Defensive pairs so we can get more ice time. Vegas is coming up and I know we can score more goals if i got PQ playing out there with me...so if at all possible we can include him on the squad let me know. and if not let me know, because most likely i will still make the trip and paul will come too and just watch...i just put in my time off request for work so most likely I will be there for the tourney...Talk to you later bro...hope things are well...k peace! get at me!
  • Katherine Cortes

hi Vin, for what it's worth, the donation was meant to be from Erik as well as me. If you end up needing some (wo)manpower to put the boards together we may be able to turn out for that, depending on timing. He's out of town for another week, and then we both leave for 3 weeks on 12/15.
  • Steve W

How about that save on Cammaleri!
  • Rainer

    vinny, yeah ssh.
  • matt messenger

Hey, this is Matt from Seattle bike polo. I would like a name of someone that organizes your games. I need a contact name and # for the city parks "courts projects" that I have been working on and need more interest. Pls call Matt @ 206.300.0693 thanks alot.
  • Steve W

Oh Vinnie....that one must have hurt! Bet it felt like you had that game all wrapped up!
  • Steve W

Performances like that aren't going to get the Sabres very far in the playoffs. You can only pull a rabbit out of the hat so many times.
